Tesco Goes £1 For €1
Updated : Mar 15, 2009
Tesco has become the first retailer to offer like-for-like on sterling prices on all their clothing lines in Ireland.
From next Monday, Tesco customers will be able to pay euro for the price quoted in sterling. The announcement is great news for customers who will now be able to buy fashion that is 7pc cheaper than in the equivalent British or Northern Ireland stores.
Tesco commercial director Jacqueline O'Neill said that customers need not travel north to save money anymore. "We are delighted to introduce euro for pound parity on clothing in 75 stores across the country," said Ms O'Neill, adding that the plan is part of a €20m investment by the retailer.
While the original prices will remain on the tags, customers will now pay in euro for the sterling price, so for example, a ladies suit priced at £40 will now cost Irish customers €40.
