Safety Campaigner Due In Court

Updated : Mar 9, 2009

A road safety campaigner, who alerted motorists to dangerous potholes, is to be hauled before the courts.

53-year-old Martin Hannigan from Cootehill in Co. Cavan, put up road signs and drew warning circles around hazardous potholes to alert drivers but for his efforts, he has been summonsed to Cavan District Court, charged with putting up a "road sign without local authority permission likely to cause an obstruction."

Father-of-six Martin, who has been campaigning for 20 years to have dangerous potholes around Co. Cavan repaired, said: "I was absolutely shocked. I have been campaigning for 20 years so I took to painting luminous circles around potholes which were left unrepaired for a long time."

VeryHappyPig can't believe the courts are prosecuting this man!
