Little Zara To Get Life-Saving Operation

Updated : Mar 7, 2009

Baby Zara Aylward is finally getting the life-saving operation she so badly needs next month, as a result of a massive fundraising campaign that has taken Kilkenny by storm.

Zara has an rare condition which has seen her brain develop in only one side of her skull causing various problems for the 14-month-old little girl. Her parents Clodagh and Kevin who live in Glenmore in south Kilkenny have been waiting for her to be called to have the operation in Ireland for over 11 months but to no avail. Zara needs to have the operation before she reaches 18 months old.

Some €13,000 was raised at the Waterford/Kilkenny hurling match for the fund by supporters at Walsh Park last weekend and since then, independent people have been coming up with their own ideas as to how they can help.

Florence Cullen of Callan in county Kilkenny has organised a bag-packing day in Superquinn this Friday and Saturday and she is looking for volunteers to help out with the event. If people have a few hours to spare over the two days, the assistance would be greatly appreciated. There are also other dates and venues available.

Interested people should contact Florence at 085 1635516. All proceeds will go directly towards Zara’s skull operation which is planned now for mid-April in Great Ormonde Street Hospital in London.

VeryHappyPig says thanks to the Kilkenny People for this story and best of luck to Zara and her family.
