Doodling Helps The Brain

Updated : Feb 28, 2009

Scientists have revealed that doodling can actually improve memory by almost a third.

The latest study carried out the University of Plymouth has found those who scribble down little pictures and names are 29 per cent better at remembering information than those who don’t. Researchers say that the action of doodling and drawing prevents people from daydreaming which is far more harmful to remembering details.

Psychologist Professor Jackie Andrade said: “If someone is doing a boring task, like listening to a dull telephone conversation, they may start to daydream. Daydreaming distracts from the task, resulting in poorer performance. A simple task, like doodling, may be sufficient to stop daydreaming without affecting performance on the main task.”

VeryHappyPig is going to be a doodler from now on!!
