Chipper Smell Not Chips At All

Updated : Feb 9, 2009

As you stroll past a chipper and get drawn in by the smell of the yummy food, it is not just chips your smelling but actually a blend of butterscotch, onion and ironing boards as well as a hint of cheese and flowers!

Scientists at Leeds University have carried out a vital study into what goes into the smell of chips and have found the smell is much more complex and might explain why chips are everyone's favourite.

Researcher Richard Clayton said: "We found lightly cooked chips contained three simple aromas like bitter cocoa. Extra cooking produced up to nine different aromas."

VeryHappyPig is amazed at the findings from this very important study!
