Sort Of Luck Of The Irish!

Updated : Feb 7, 2009

Three Irish friends made a miraculous escape after a train accident in South Africa. Francis Naughton, 59, who is originally from Waterford but has lived in South Africa for 30 years, said he was just going for a walk around Kalk Bay, which he had been to several times. Kay O’Flynn, 62, and Mary O’Mahony, both Irish women who were on a two week vacation to South Africa, were with Naughton when the three encountered a train travelling towards them. Naughton said “I thought we’d take a short cut to the boulders and before I knew it, this train was right behind us,”

Naughton said that the train had been moving very slowly, and it had suddenly gained speed. He had just enough time to shout out to his friends and save them from certain death. Although they suffered some injuries, none were life-threatening. Naughton says that they were fortunate and extremely lucky to have gotten out of the incident with only scuffs and bruises. “Call it the luck of the Irish, but someone was looking down on us,”

VeryHappyPig as a bit of advice, don’t take that short cut again or you will be looking down on us from above!
