Named Cows Produce More Milk

Updated : Jan 29, 2009

Giving cows names like Daisy and Buttercup helps them produce more milk than those with no names, according to a new UK study.

Cattle who are given 'the personal touch' are happier and can produce up to 500 pints more milk a year, said experts at Newcastle University in northeast England.

'Just as people respond better to the personal touch, cows also feel happier and more relaxed if they are given a bit more one-to-one attention,' said Catherine Douglas, who conducted the research.

Almost half of the farmers surveyed, 46%, said the cows on their farms had individual names.

VeryHappyPig named himself, impressive eh?!
