Chinese New Year Coming To Dublin

Updated : Jan 25, 2009

People here are welcoming in the Chinese Year of the Ox with a special celebration in Dublin today.

A carnival takes place at Wolfe Tone Park in Jervis Street this afternoon.

There are some taboos relating to Chinese New Year though, crying on New Year's Day means you will cry for the rest of the year, while washing your hair signifies washing away good luck. However, eating dumplings, which symbolise wealth because their shape resembles traditional Chinese gold and silver ingots, is a good thing.

VeryHappyPig says Wohoo for the Year of the Ox, when is the Year of the Pig though? That'll be a damn good year!
