The Irish Government has cracked down on social welfare fraud and saved Ireland €476million. Figures show that the Government looked at 560,000 welfare claims in 2008.
The Department of Social Welfare says its campaign to rid Ireland of fraud led to savings of €476m - up €29m from 2007.
A number of new ways to stop the fraud claims, were introduced to tackle false entitlements last year, including more interviews with people receiving jobseeker benefits, and a review of single parents' earnings.
