A DEAF Dalmatian has been taught sign language by RSPCA staff.

They were worried that 18-month-old Zoe would be overlooked by prospective adopters so they trained her using gestures rather than verbal commands.

Zoe soon learned signals telling her to sit, lie down, stay and paw.

But her favourite is the thumbs up sign — meaning “good girl”.

Gill Hodge, of Little Valley Animal Shelter, in Exeter, Devon, said: “Staff started encouraging Zoe to look at their faces and keep her interest through eye contact and by giving her treats.

“Then they could teach her basic sign language.”
