Six Year Old Boy Becomes Museum Director!

Updated : Aug 24, 2009

A six-year-old boy who wanted to become the director of York's National Railway Museum has landed himself a job - as the director of fun.

Sam Pointon wrote a letter saying he wanted to be the new museum chief when he heard the boss, Andrew Scott, had annouced his plans to retire.

In the letter he wrote: "I am only six, but I think I can do this job."

He explained he was perfect for the role as he had been on lots of trains, had visited the museum, and owned an electric train track.

A museum spokeswoman said they always thought the job would be in demand. She said: "It wasn't foreseen that one of the most memorable applications for the position would be that of six-year old Sam."

She said bosses were so impressed by his application they appointed him Director Of Fun.

His job will be to bosses how he thinks they can ensure the museum is the most fun place for kids to spend a day out.

In return, Sam was invited to spend a VIP day out at the museum with his family, including a special behind-the-scenes tour of the workshop.

Sam's father, Robin Pointon, of Leicester, said: "Sam was absolutely delighted when he received the letter appointing him. He has always been a huge fan of trains so obviously the NRM has always been his number one choice for a day out."

VHP thinks being director of fun is nearly as good as having a job in Mr Magorium's wonder emporium
