Half A Million To Indulge In Culture!

Updated : Aug 20, 2009

More than half a million people are expected to visit the free and vast cultural offerings across Dublin and 10 other towns and cities for Culture Night 2009.

Every museum, gallery and countless exhibitions will open its doors on Friday, September 25, for recession- beating entertainment according to the Herald.

Guests and tourists were treated to the daring aerial acrobatics of Barren Carousel and the samba sounds of Global Brass Beats as the event was launched by Lord Mayor Emer Costello in the courtyard of the National Museum of Ireland.

Since its inception in 2006, Culture Night has grown from strength to strength and is now a key part of the cultural calendar. Visitor figures are projected to grow from 40,000 in 2006 to 500,000 this year.

The organisers promise something for everyone, from animals at the Dead Zoo at the national Museum of Ireland and a Lord Mayor's tea dance in Cork to a tour of a thousand years of art and antiquities in the Hunt Museum in Limerick and dancing in the green in Tralee.

In Dublin, a record 124 cultural venues will open their doors, including St Stephen's Green Park, the Guinness Storehouse and the Ark Cultural Centre for Children.

Dublin Bus has organised a free shuttle service to the main events. Details are available at www.culturenight.ie
