Another Kinbd Donation Parents Give Money To Charity

Updated : Aug 18, 2009

A small charity has purchased a minibus for its physically disabled residents after a Dublin family donated €42,000 -- a sum which was intended to help their paralysed son.

Family and friends of the late Joey Hogan from Walkinstown, Dublin, who was paralysed for three years after an accident in Australia, had been fundraising to build an extension to their home in Walkinstown.

Sadly Joey passed away before any work was done on the extension.

Donal Gilbert, manager of Greystones Cheshire House which has received the donation, told the Herald: "I was so humbled when they approached us. We're so lucky to receive this donation."

A new Ford Transit van is now being converted for wheelchair users, and is being fitted with ramps and suitable safety belts.

"Anyone with a D license on their driving license and no penalty points will be able to drive it," added Donal, "so if families [of our residents] want to use it we can arrange that with the insurance companies."

The charity hopes to have the mini-bus up and running by the end of August and the Hogan family will be invited to its launch.

Mr Hogan was paralysed after a diving accident and he moved into to Greystones Cheshire House after he was treated at the National Rehabilitation Hospital.
