Irish Students Impress On International Scale

Updated : Aug 5, 2009

Today two Irish Students fly back from Toronto, Canada after scoring the highest results by any European entrants in this year’s Worldwide Competition in Microsoft Office. This wasn’t enough however to wrestle the title away from the eventual winners from Thailand and Taiwan.

Suzy Farrell from Maynooth Post Primary School finished fifth overall in the Microsoft Word Final - an amazing achievement - and Melissa Scott from Ballyclare High School did her school proud by finishing in eleventh in the Microsoft Excel Final.

Kevin Ryan, Marketing Manager with Prodigy Learning, the company who arranged for the Students to take part, congratulated both entrants on a tremendous effort.
“Our Irish Champions performed brilliantly and have topped the European scoring. Proving more and more Irish students are leaving Secondary School with world class IT skills. An Irish Labour force equipped with top drawer computer skills will help Ireland increase it’s competitiveness in an ever tougher global economy.”
