New building projects at four third-level colleges will create a number of construction jobs, industry chiefs said last night.
The National Development Finance Agency has begun the tendering process for the public-private partnership (PPP) works in Dublin, Cork and Limerick. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 the Irish Independent reports.
Announcing the move yesterday, Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe said he was pleased that the first bundle of PPP projects in the third-level sector could be offered to the market.
"The total scale of the new projects is over 24,000 square metres and they'll accommodate almost 5,000 students," he said, adding that the building projects would "create hundreds of jobs in construction at a challenging time".
