Incomeing US Ambassador Takes Up His Post This Week

The incoming US Ambassador to Ireland is due to present his credentials to President Mary McAleese today.
Seventy-six-year-old businessman Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers American football team, arrived in Ireland to take up the position this week.
Mr Rooney, who traces his roots to Newry in Co Down, co-founded the American Ireland Fund in the 1970s.
The fund has since raised more than $300m (€215m) for programs that support the peace process.
Announcing his appointment as ambassador on St Patrick's Day, US President Barack Obama described him as an unwavering supporter of Irish peace, culture and education.
