Lotto Winner Thanks Good Samaritan

Updated : Jun 16, 2009

The unemployed lotto winner, who was only able to collect his €350,000 winnings because of the honesty of a shop owner has expressed his gratitude and vowed to donate some of his money to the Good Samaritan.

Dermot Finglas left his winning ticket in the shop he had purchased it, but he was tracked down after honest shopkeeper Tom Heavey launched a national media campaign.

Pictures of Dermot taken from the stores CCTV footage appeared in the newspapers and as result Mr Finglas was found and in turn collected his reward.

In another twist to the uplifting story it was Mr Finglas’ father, Dermot senior who recognised his son picture in the Daily Star, as he was buying the Irish national in the same shop the Lotto winner, Dermot junior had purchased and left his the ticket.
