Dubliners To Make A Difference

Four Dubliners have been given the opportunity to change careers and work for charities of their choice, after winning the World of Difference programme.

The winners, which were chosen by a panel of judges including Ray D'Arcy, Newstalk's Claire Byrne, Dragon's Den's Gavin Duffy, and columnist Roisin Ingle, will quit their old day jobs and work to make an impact in peoples lives the Evening Herald Reports.

Aideen Lyster (40), from Inchicore, Dublin 8, will be working with Coolmine Therapeutic Community, after working in adult education in Inchicore College for the past few years.

"I worked in the area of addiction before I started teaching, and I've always known about the good work that Coolmine do because they're the longest-running rehabilitation centre in Ireland," she said.

Fiona Sexton (37), from Ringsend, Dublin 4, has worked in marketing for 13 years, and will be working with Volunteer Centres Ireland.

Fiona will take up the position of project manager for the Bridging the Volunteering Gap project and will examine the volunteering infrastructure in Ireland.

Killian Stokes (36), Booterstown, Co Dublin, will work with www.mygoodpoints.com, a new charity that he has founded. The website allows consumers to gather and convert retail loyalty points and air mails into direct cash donations for charity projects of their choice, at home and abroad.

Hagan Bolger (37), Goatstown, Co Dublin, will be working as a communications manager with Open Heart House, which works to empower and enhance the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

"My first job is to look at the branding on the communications side of things so that it will have a stronger impact," Hagan said.
