A teenage school student was elected on to his town council on Saturday night and celebrated by studying for his Monday morning Leaving Cert Maths exam.
Student Tom Raine from Newtown Glen in Tramore county Waterford had to rush to the count from his rescheduled English exam to discover he past the election test with flying colours.
“I had to do my exam first at 9:30am but the count started at 9am. I missed a few hours and I had to run from the exam to the count hall. But I got in by 23 votes in the end.”
Tom decided to run for Tramore Town Council after seeking advice from teacher Ann Maire Power at his school Tramore CBS and he was delighted with the result.
“Now I am just hoping maths goes well tomorrow.”
