800 Year Old RIng Found In Armagh

Updated : Jun 3, 2009

It’s double whammy Wednesday here at VeryHappyPig. We brought you two positive cycling news stories and now we are bringing you our second happy ring related story.

A medieval silver ring dating back over 800 years has been unearthed on a farm in Northern Ireland according to the Evening Herald.

The 12th-century artefact was found by Conor Sandford (17) as he was putting up a fence post at the edge of one of his father’s fields near the village of Kilmore, Co Armagh.

Conor told a treasure trove hearing in Belfast yesterday he initially thought the ring was a ring pull from an old fizzy drink can. However, the item was in fact a ring that experts have dated to circa 1170.

After making the discovery last year, Conor contacted Channel Four’s ‘Time Team’, who told him to get in touch with the Ulster Museum.
