Updated : May 26, 2009

Irish aviation simulation provider, Simtech, announced a multi-million euro investment in Fingal yesterday, creating Ireland’s first purpose-built ‘Aviation Centre of Excellence’ for airline personnel and career pilots, close to Dublin Airport.

An Taoiseach, Mr. Brian Cowen, T.D., attended a tree-planting ceremony at the site of the new Aviation Centre to mark the investment announcement.

Simtech, which employ 24 people at their current base in Dublin Airport, provide aviation flight simulation and aviation training for airlines and helicopter companies all over the world, including City Jet, Tiger Airways in Singapore, Aer Arann and airlines from Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

On September 1st, the company will move its aviation simulation facilities to the new ‘Aviation Centre of Excellence’, a 20,000 sq ft facility located at Dublin Airport Logistics Park.

Fergal Keogh, founder of Simtech, said: “This multi-million euro investment by Simtech signals confidence in Ireland’s ability to play a significant part in world aviation training and support services. The new Aviation Centre of Excellence in Dublin will attract pilots from the UK, the rest of Europe and the Middle East to Ireland.”

“We expect the workforce to grow to approximately 40 over the next five years. The workforce is specialist administration and technical, comprising engineering graduates trained to certified flight simulation standards and certified instructors to the airline industry.” he added. In September, Simtech are taking delivery of an additional Full Flight Simulator, which will be situated in one of five new simulator bays.

Sé Pardy, Director and Co-Promoter with Simtech said: “Fingal was a natural choice for Simtech, thanks to the availability of qualified staff and instructors, its proximity to an international airport and the good selection of accommodation options for visiting pilots. As a company, we have also benefitted enormously from the assistance of the Fingal County Enterprise Board, which has supported us since we started.”
