House Prices Drop
Updated : May 16, 2009
Again a story that prompted some debate in the VeryHappyPig office, as for some its good news and for others it’s the type of news that is banned from this happy realm.
However, once more VeryHappyPig chooses to look on the bright side and would much prefer to accentuate the positives when revealing house prices in the capital have fallen by almost 20pc in a year.
There was an 18pc fall in housing prices in Dublin, prices also fell in Limerick by 13.5pc, and almost 10pc in Waterford. Cork experienced the smallest reduction with prices down by 3.6pc. The details for the fall in house prices came from mortgage lending agencies and loans approved by them.
The figures also show that the average price for a second-hand house nationally was €323,418 in the last three months of 2008. This was down by 10.3pc on the corresponding period in the previous year.
