Eurovision

Updated : May 13, 2009

VeryHappyPig heard a mother inform a young boy recently that the word gay means to be happy, before muttering under her breath “and you must be the happiest kid in the world!”

Well, VeryHappyPig believes if gay is to be translated as happy you can not get much happier than the Eurovision, which kicked of last night. Subsequently, as VHP rejoices in news of the happy kind we feel it our duty to bring you news of the famous and wonderfully camp very happy Euro song contest.

The first of the semi finals were contested last night and Eurovision fans certainly were not disappointed. Not only do they get three doses of outrageous costumes, beautiful singers, white suits, tango tans and poptastic music this year, but hosts, Russia put on a hilarious show in semi final one. Albeit by accident!

Ireland will compete in the second semi final, which is on tomorrow night, hoping to make it in to the final. A feat we somehow haven’t managed for some time now! VeryHappyPig is considering a bring back Johnny Logan campaign. He is Mr Eurovision and no man in world history wears a white suit with such suave.

Anyway the ten countries that qualified for Saturdays prestigious final are- let VHP clear his throat. Here are the results from the Pig Pen Jury-VHP always wanted to say that:

Turkey, Sweden, Israel, Portugal, Malta, Finland, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Romania, Armenia and Iceland.

The Turkish entry 'Dum Tek Tek' by pop singer Hadise, featuring belly dancing, is one of the favourites to win the contest. VeryHappyPig believes her favourite status, however has nothing to do with the song, and has more to do with her scant approach to clothing, her Shakira and Beyonce style hip movement and the fact she is just sensationally beautiful.

Russia, France, Germany, Britain and Spain are automatically given the right to compete in the final and ten more finalists will be chosen on Thursday in the second semi-final.

Among those seeking a place will be Sinead Mulvey and Black Daisy who are representing Ireland. Their song 'Et Cetera' was written by Niall Mooney, Jonas Gladnikoff, Daniele Morett
