Irish Continue To Give

Updated : May 9, 2009

VeryHappyPig told you how Irish people are consider champion aid givers, and there seems to be no end to the countries generosity and as a result uplifting stories for Irelands happy news only website.

Despite the current global climate a charity lunch in honour of a baby boy who died from a rare brain defect has sold out -- and even has a waiting list.

'Baby Sam's lunch', which honours Sam Nolan, from Blackrock in Dublin, will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel, in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation, tomorrow. Jo Synott, Sam's mum is hosting the lunch in his honour for the second time along with Sam's dad John and his sister Amy the Evening Herald reported.

Sam, who suffered from Holoprosencephly, died five weeks after the inaugural lunch, but his parents are carrying on the fundraising event in his memory.

"To be able to continue Sam's work for the lunch is just brilliant," said Jo. "It's been hectic." Sam, who died aged 13 months, had required 24-hour home nursing care, which the Jack and Jill Foundation helped provide.

Some 170 tickets to the event have been sold, with Bertie Ahern as one of the guests. Due to demand, the original number of available tickets was increased from 150. Carmel Doyle, for the Jack and Jill Foundation, said: "I think Jo and John are playing a stormer.

"They did a fantastic job with this lunch. They should be so proud. If ever there was an example of how a sick child can thrive when cared for and loved at home, it's Sam."
"It's very special that they're doing this lunch and hopefully it'll turn into an annual thing."
VeryHappyPig thinks you can’t get a more uplifting story.
