Punch Drunk

Updated : Apr 30, 2009

The undoubted highlight of the Irish Racing Calendar, the Irish National Hunt Festival in Puncherstown, is well and truly underway and like VeryHappyPig giving the people of Ireland a much needed boost.
Punchestown has captivated generations of Irish and international race goers and continues to do so this year.
Yesterday was another fine day for the punters giving some Irish people a much needed boost to their coffers after the heavily backed Notre Pere won the big race.
The 15-8 favourite cemented his position at the head of the Irish staying chasing tree by grinding his Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup rivals into submission
The Swordlestown Cup Novice Chase is today’s biggest race with Paddytheplaster favourite at 7/4 while the Land Rover Champion Novice Hurdle is Friday eagerly awaited contest.

The €220,000 Handicap Hurdle – run over 2 miles, 4 furlongs – was introduced as the feature race on the new Festival Saturday and will the highlight of a great week for many.

The 2009 Punchestown Festival races have a whopping total prize fund of €2,535,000.

VeryHappyPig loves Punchestown but never has any luck and doesn’t win back enough money to cover the cost of Mrs VeryHappyPig’s drinks bill or new hat collection.
