One Arm Hole In One

A golfer scored a hole in one - despite having only one arm.

Phil Bell, 45, used his "backhand swipe" for the 184 yards, par three fourth hole.
The dad of two, who lost his right arm seven years ago when his lorry crashed, said: "I knew I'd hit the ball well.

"But at the green I couldn't see it and assumed I'd over hit it. Then one of the chaps went white with shock and said, 'Look in the hole'."
Playing pals verified the shot at Warley Woods near his home in Oldbury.

Adare To Attract 10,000

The village of Adare in County Limerick has shown that life after the Irish Open Championship will continue as normal by announcing details of the third annual Adare Village Festival.
Event organisers estimate that up to 10,000 people will visit the heritage town during the three-day festival, which take place from 15-17
May 2009.

The festival of culture and heritage was first held in 2007 to coincide with the Irish Open being hosted at Adare Manor. The relocating of the international golf tournament had led to fears that the festival would be discontinued.

However, organisers today announced a comprehensive three-day programme of events that will include live music, theatre, food and craft markets, and art and heritage exhibitions.

According to Festival co-ordinator and Chairperson of the Adare Business Association, David Fitzgerald, “We are delighted to announce the continuation of the Adare Village Festival, which promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Adare like every town and village throughout Ireland has felt the effects of the recession and this relaxing and family-friendly festival will no doubt provide a welcome boost to the local tourism and business sectors.”

Irish Newspapers Praised

The Irish Newspaper Industry has received praise for its environmental efforts, with one of the North America’s leading conservation firms describing the strategy to reduce paper waste in this country as “impressive”.

In a report entitled ‘Environmental Leadership in the Paper Supply Chain’ Canada Bases Markets Initiative praised National Newspapers of Ireland NNI for “taking the initiative and quickly effecting significant positive change in the recycling of newspapers and the use of recycled news print.
