Irish Fans May Have F1 Team To Support Next Year

Ireland could enter a team in car racing’s biggest competition next year as Martin Birrane, the owner of Mondello Park, is planning to enter an Irish team in the 2010 Formula One Championship.

Four years after Eddie Jordan sold his F1 team, Jordan Birrane has applied to the FIA for one of the two new slots allocated by the sports governing body.

Birrane has already tried to dine at motor sports top table when he purchased Lola Cars but that proved an ill-fated Formula 1 affair.

Lola did however regain its premier position as a manufacturer of cars in the Champ Car World Series, Formula 3, Formula 3000, Formula Nippon, GP2 and A1gp as well as provide the wind tunnels for facilities for many of the leading F1 teams.

Now the Irish owned company has bid to return to the top table and Birrane will discover if his application is approved in six weeks.

Plans for an Observation Wheel Put In Motion

Dublin looks set to get its own version of the London Eye or Belfast wheel it was revealed this week.

Observation wheels, which provide people with a high rise view of the city, have become popular across Europe and it looks like Dublin will follow the trend.

A new wheel, which looks set to become a tourist attraction, will be set up in Sublin’s financial centre at a height of 80 metres.

The wheel will have a an observation platform so tourists can have a unique view of the skyline.

Irish People Show Interest In Politics

Irish people are among the most interested in the upcoming European elections, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey.

The research has found that 45% of Irish people are likely to vote in the election, compared to an EU average of 34%.

Unemployment, economic growth and crime are the topics of most concern to the electorate ahead of the June 5 poll.
