Community Clean Up

Updated : Apr 23, 2009

The EF International Language School today announced the First Annual EF Earth Day Community Clean Up where students and staff plan to clean up their local neighbourhood.

Earth Day, celebrated April 22nd around the globe, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment and to encourage community action.

EF International Language School, located in Dublin’s Fitzwilliam Square, currently hosts students from all over the world – from Venezuela to Lichtenstein to Japan and everything else in between. With so many cultures, customs, and traditions, each student is bound by one common denominator - the environment.

“Everyone can make a difference,” says Áine Magennis, School Director, EF International Language School. “Being environmentally conscious can take the form of separating your plastics from your paper or just holding on to your rubbish until you find a bin. It is all within our abilities to contribute. As a group, EF Dublin hopes to help make some change for the better in our neighbourhood and bring awareness to the greater community.”

EF Dublin’s recent ECO CHALLENGE is an environmental campaign to help educate students and staff on the importance of recycling and reducing green-house emissions. Through simple acts such as switching off the lights when they leave the classroom, monitoring heat levels, and paper waste, the EF school is becoming greener every day.

With EF’s students all calling Ireland their adopted home, Laurie Mahon, EF Dublin’s Activities Coordinator, believes “it is amazing that so many students are enthusiastic about cleaning up the streets of Dublin; when it is not even their permanent home.’ Anyone wishing to join EF Dublin this afternoon are very welcome! The kickoff starts at 5:30 p.m. at 29/30 Fitzwilliam Square
