BBC Goof

A BBC presenter was forced to apologies to Grand National winning jockey Liam Treadwell after joking about his teeth on air.

Whilst interviewing the jockey, who had just won Racings biggest race, presenter, Clare Balding urged the 23-year-old to show his teeth and told him he could now afford to "get them done" with his prize money.

A BBC spokeswoman has since said the presenter "had no intention whatsoever" of upsetting or embarrassing the jockey.

Public reaction wasn’t quiet as bad as Brand and Ross gate but the BBC received 1,477 complaints from viewers over the remarks.

Balding exact words to the jockey who had just ridden a 100-1 winner were "Give us a big grin to the camera."

When he smiled, keeping his lips closed, she added: "No, no, let's see your teeth. He hasn't got the best teeth in the world, but you can afford to go and get them done now if you like."

The BBC revealed the presenter has since made her apologies in person.

Very Happy Pig considered getting braces once, but not for any vain or aesthetic reasons. Just imagine all the things you could chew on with reinforced metal in your mouth.
