Pensioner takes to the sky

Updated : Dec 1, 2009

VeryHappyPig would like to assure the doubters that pigs certainly can’t fly. However, we take great pleasure in revealing, that while we keep our hoofs firmly on the ground, another very unlikely flyer took skies recently to raise money for an Irish charity, and broke an amazing record in doing so.

English man George Moyse became the oldest ever skydiver in both Britain or Ireland when he jumped out of a plane at 10,000ft just two years and two days short of his one hundred birthday recently.

The 97-year-old English man was strapped to an instructor and carried out a freefall for the first 5,000ft (1,524m) at nearly 120mph (193kmh) before parachuting to safely to the ground.

Moyse, who was born in 1911 performed the record breaking jump with his 43 year old grandson, Edward Brewer and did so in aid of the British and Irish charity the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

"It was lovely, I really enjoyed it, I wasn't frightened at all. It was the first time but it won't be the last," Mr Moyse claimed after the jump.

VeryHappyPig is 326 and still skydives daily!
