Top Award For Irish Filmmaker

Updated : Apr 1, 2009

Irish film maker Alan Cooke has scooped a top Emmy award in new York for his documentary ‘Home’ at the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards at the weekend.

‘Home’ which received a ’best writing’ award at the prestigious ceremony on Sunday, is a documentary about Irish citizens living in New York city. Alan, (36) from Kilbarrack in Co. Dublin, said: “ It was terrific to win, absolutely brilliant. It’s a really big deal.”

He added: “It has been well received at festivals and by anyone who has seen it, but has not been a financial success.”

The film, which was made for just €30,000, has previously won the Best Documentary at the Magners Irish Film Festival 2006 and at the Chashama Film Festival, New York City 2008.

VeryHappyPig says I’ll have my fingers crossed you make a few bob now, Alan!!
