Dubliner Dunne Claims WBA Title

Updated : Mar 23, 2009

Dublin boxer Bernard Dunne knocked out Ricardo Cordoba out in the 11th round of his world title challenge fight in the O2 Arena in Dublin on Saturday to become the new WBA super-bantam weight champion.

In front of 9,000 screaming fans, it took local man Dunne the best part of 11 rounds to seal victory over Ricardo Cordoba, who arrived in Dublin with a list of victories as long as his reach. He was supposed to be too good for the man from Neilstown but Dunne proved the doubters wrong and sent him crashing to the canvas four times.

The 29-year-old Irishman, however, showed incredible display of heart, will and sheer toughness to complete a remarkable weekend for Irish sport………… “Champion of the world, Bernard Dunne.”

VeryHappyPig says what a proud day to be Irish, what an incredible fight!!
